Dictionary of Photography

The Dictionary of Photography has been published by The Thames & Hudson, the volume of great dimensions covers 180 years of the history of photography. The publication employs more than 300 pictures to introduce the most significant photographers, innovators, philosophers and herewith the names and characteristics of the notions.

The unconventional publication was edited by Nathalie Herschdorfer, with the collaboration of 150 professionals choosing the meritorious photographers and key figures of their home countries. The section introducing Hungary was edited by Gábor Máté, head of the Photography Department in MOME. Many of the professors of MOME are represented in the volume, as Miklós Gulyás, Imre Drégely, Gábor Kopek and the recently departed Gergely Szatmári, and many other prominent, acknowledged or in the international scene not yet recognized Hungarian photographers are represented in the Dictionary.

The book, which arranges the history of photography in alphabetical order like a dictionary, is not only an interesting reading but an impressive album, as well.
