The second semester of the MOME Service Design specialised training kicked off with a four-day intensive workshop with lead service designers of Laerdel Medical’s Norwegian centre Katalin Dóczi-Nagy and Antonia Fedlmeier, involving the students in the development of a currently running live project.

Mini animation spots capturing the momentum and vibe of Budapest were designed by MOME Anim students to promote the MyBudapest application. The animations feature several iconic locations, including Trafo, Toldi Cinema, Gellért Hill, and thermal baths, presented by the students using their own experiences.

CheckINN Revitalisator 2024, the joint idea competition of CheckINN Turisztikai Innovációmenedzsment Kft. and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design has just kicked off, with a cash prize of HUF 3 million for the team with the best revitalisation idea. The competition is inviting entries by mostly architecture and tourism and hospitality students for reinventing rust zone sites, giving abandoned industrial buildings a new purpose while preserving their original values and making an appreciable touristic impact.

Even in its dilapidated state, the Batthyány Manor in Sitke captures the imagination of passersby. This inspiring architectural complex was the subject of a week-long course at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, and there are expectations for further collaboration with the descendants of the Batthyány family owning the house. The revitalisation project is centred around a plan for a contemporary nursing home that would also help uphold and perpetuate local values.

This year’s winner of the Elizabeth A-i-R international photography residency programme has been selected, and will be enjoying the hospitality of Erzsébetváros and MOME. Mexican photographer Alejandra Gonzales Aragon works with various mediums, chiefly video, sound, photos, and found pictures, and is also interested in performative exercises. Her main focuses include gender issues, as well as intersections of home and identity. Launched jointly by Budapest Erzsébetváros and MOME Photography in 2022, the programme this year received nearly 60 entries from 60 countries over 5 continents.

Winning projects include a hearing aid doubling as jewellery, a narrative video game, multimedia visuals, and several revitalisation projects. The certificates were presented personally by the eponym of the scholarship, world-renowned product designer and MOME Professor Emeritus Stefan Lengyel at the awards ceremony, which was a great honour to both the scholarship recipients and the university staff. The sixteen students will receive the scholarship for a period of 5 months to work on further elaborating their concepts.

Providing an opportunity for 23 young talents from Hungary’s poorest regions to pursue creative studies, the Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future programme launched on 9 February with a host of community and professional activities, and a tour of Budapest.

Next year, Hungary’s first astronaut will be launched into space. How will space research change the world 20 years from now? How and what can the universe teach us? These are some of the questions The Jump into the future! 2024 creative competition of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design asks, inviting teams of 7th to 10th grade students or friends from Hungary and the other side of the border who are interested in the future, are full of ideas, and would enjoy designing a science fiction item or service.

As one of the most significant social responsibility commitments in the history of MOME, in the summer of 2023, we announced a unique, comprehensive nation-wide scholarship and talent program in Hungarian higher education titled "Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future’. The program aims to support and guide students from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring their journey to a successful university admission.

80 high schoolers from all over the country have applied to the ‘Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future’ scholarship programme of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. The mission of the initiative launched jointly by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and MOME is to create opportunities for young talents living in Hungary’s poorest regions to pursue creative studies.
