MOME offers new English-language MAs to East Central European talents

Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) further expands its international education portfolio following the successful launch of its first two English MA programmes. Students looking to continue their education in the creative industries will now have the opportunity to study Animation and Design in English language from September 2023, in addition to Photography and Interaction Design, building a valuable network and gaining future-shaping, competitive knowledge while still at university.

It is MOME’s ambition to become the most recognised university in the creative domain in Central Europe by 2030, and actively contribute the efforts of its creative communities to address the global challenges of the 21st century. This requires innovative, design-based responses developed by top professionals across scientific fields and borders. In September 2022, the university introduced its first English-language programmes to attract the best the region has to offer from the Baltics to the Western Balkans. The launch of the two new English-language programmes represents another important milestone in this process.

One Interaction Design MA student said the following to describe the training at MOME’s state-of-the-art campus: “What I like the most about it is that despite the set curriculum, there is a certain amount of flexibility in the programme. I enjoy the combination of applied and speculative design methods, the balanced content, and exploring a subject from several different aspects – human, technological, business – and through diverse fields of study. MOME offers scores of possibilities and formats for unlocking our potential, such as participation in hackathons and open calls, and drawing inspiration from talks by leading international industry players.”

The English-language MAs are naturally also available to students from Hungary and EEA countries, potentially with state-funding covering their entire tuition in case they submit their application through the Hungarian admission system. In addition, there is a dedicated scholarship programme for the top Central Eastern European applicants.

The long-standing Design MA programme launching in English in autumn 2023 seeks to train designers with a strategic approach and proactive entrepreneurial mindset who can understand the world in a broader context. It includes two specialisations: Strategic Product Innovation focuses on the research and design of human-scale objects, object systems and related services that reflect social and cultural needs in a complex fashion, while Smart Mobility explores solutions to responsibly address the transport challenges of the future.

The internationally renowned Animation MA, the university’s other new English-language Master’s programme, will offer a Film Director, a Game Design and an Immersive Storytelling specialisation. The latter will cover the working, tools and possibilities of virtual and augmented reality technologies in various areas including mental hygiene and the tourism of the future in addition to the entertainment industry.

The University of the Future enters a new phase - the Senate has approved the implementation plan

The University of the Future initiative is a key focus this year, aimed at MOME’s comprehensive revitalisation. Thanks to persistent efforts over recent months, working groups have developed a detailed implementation plan for the University of the Future programme, a.k.a. the “Three Schools model”, which was unanimously accepted in December 2023. The process has now reached a new milestone: on 18 July, the Senate has pledged its support for the plan, paving the way for continued collaborative work to implement the new structure by next winter and to transform MOME into one of Europe's leading design higher education institutions.

MOME to feature at the Campus exhibition of the Ars Electronica 2024 festival

Our University has been invited to exhibit at one of the world's most prestigious digital art festivals, the Ars Electronica 2024. Each year, the Campus series of the long-standing festival presents an art university. This year's exhibition is organised in collaboration with the University of Linz, and will feature outstanding student diploma works from recent years in Linz's main square selected by curators Judit Eszter Kárpáti, Esteban de la Torre, and Ágoston Nagy.

From now on, MOME graduates are given a Heritage of the Future symbol to take home upon graduation

A new symbol has been added to the range of memorabilia that members of the MOME community can receive as they reach various milestones in their university careers. This new emblem, which reinforces a sense of belonging, is a turned and machined bronze item with a polished surface based on the letter ‘O’ in MOME’s logo. Designed by MOME MA teacher Krisztián Ádám at the initiative of Rector József Fülöp, this symbol will be awarded to all graduates at all levels along with the diplomas starting in 2024.
