MOME Anim shines at the 76th Berlinale
Produced on the MOME Anim MA with the support of the National Film Institute, Fire in My Pocket, is set in a magical mushroom realm, capturing the delicate line between childhood imagination and reality. Running at just under ten minutes, the film is a unique blend of stop-motion and digital hand-drawn animation techniques.
Each screening was followed by a Q&A, where members of the team answered questions from international audiences in person. The film was warmly received: children and adults alike responded to the story with curiosity and openness, following a young boy lured by a tiny fire creature into a series of mischievous escapades.
MOME Anim’s presence at the Berlinale reflects a professional track record built over many years. Since 2014, its diploma films have featured regularly at the world’s leading film festival, and this latest premiere once again reinforces the university’s international standing in animation.
The European Film Market was a standout within the festival’s industry programme, with animation given a prominent role for the first time through Animation Days. On 13 February, the programme also featured a Hungarian-linked pitch: Milorad Krstić’s project Moumoush formed part of a presentation related to Annecy.
The university’s presence at the Berlinale was supported by the National Film Institute. PÖP funding covered part of student and staff attendance, while Collegium Hungaricum Berlin – Liszt Institute provided accommodation for several members of the team.
