Degree level
As part of the Experimental Design 2 course - held in collaboration with the Museum of Applied Arts -, students designed small items of furniture inspired by the work of designer Sándor Borz Kováts. Sándor Borz Kováts is one of the mot well-known designers in Hungarian design history, who created his most iconic furniture-, object- and lamp designs in the second half of the 1960s and the first two years of the 1970s, including the popular Vargánya (mushroom) lamp. His designs, which emphasised functionality and modularity and were suitable for large-scale industrial production, included drawings of multi-functional furniture that were never physically produced. These designs served as inspiration for the ZIP chair bed, which can be configured in sitting, lying or semi-supine positions. This multi-functional object is also a response to the problem of ever-shrinking living spaces in tiny urban apartments.
