Do we fear it or love them? What is the relationship between art, science, and technology? – Professor of Aalto University Laura Beloff is the next speaker of the Global Voices event series

How did our need for control and to transcend our bodies lead to advances in biotechnology and the development of artificial intelligence? Head of Doctoral Education and vice Head of the Department of Art & Media Laura Beloff will explore these topics in her talk at MOME.

It is a basic human need to take control of the surrounding world and factors affecting us. It is the same need that drives us to want to transcend our human nature and overcome the limitations of our bodies. The desires and needs arising from these fears and fantasies are also manifest in biotechnological and scientific advances.

Internationally acclaimed Finland-based artist Laura Beloff’s works push the boundary between art, technology, and art. As her focus has shifted to biology and technology in recent years, her research-based projects have given rise to works of art, scientific papers, and wearable artefacts. Beloff is vice Head of the Department of Art & Media at the Aalto University and a regular speaker at transdisciplinary conferences. She will speak next at MOME as part of the Global Voices event series of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design on 9 November, presenting her research practice through one of her own projects.
Participation is free of charge, but requires prior registration. The lecture will be held in English.

Sponsored by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University and Design as part of the Global Voices initiative.
