Everything you need for a successful creative industry career–MOME MA Open Day×Alumni Career Day

Date: 2024.11.13
The MA Open Day × Alumni Career Day of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) on 22 November provides an inside look at the university’s Hungarian and English-language master's and doctoral programmes and showcases future career paths through the success stories of MOME alumni. Highlights include portfolio consultations, alumni-led campus tours, professional portrait photography for CVs, and a vibrant MOME fair featuring works by recent graduates.

This year marks the first time MOME has combined its MA Open Day with an Alumni Career Day. The event on 22 November runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Zugliget campus and promises a dynamic programme for those considering a career in the creative industries.

The Alumni Career Day kicks off with a communal breakfast and the opening of a pop-up exhibition showcasing furniture designs by MOME students, inspired by the works of designer Sándor Borz Kováts, followed by a panel discussion with successful alumni sharing their journeys and practical advice on building a creative business. In addition, personalised consultations and professional portrait photography sessions will provide valuable support for creating standout CVs. Debuting at the event and designed to support transition into the workforce, the MOME Alumni Mentor Programme will be accompanied by campus tours, the lively MOME Lunch Breakbeat, and a fair featuring work by recent graduates, providing a glimpse into the vibrant life at MOME.

The afternoon focuses on MOME’s academic offerings of MA and doctoral courses. Starting September 2025, the university will offer six master’s programmes in Hungarian (Design Theory, Architecture, Media Design, Graphic Design, Fashion and Textile Design, and Art and Design Teacher) and six in English (Interaction Design, Photography, Animation, Design, Designer-Maker, and Art and Design Management). Prospective students can pre-book 15-minute online portfolio review consultations for English-language programmes.  Beyond the programme briefings, information will be available about MOME’s incubation about MOME’s incubation programme, which supports the market launch of exceptional student and diploma projects. The Future School briefing, available in both Hungarian and English, offers insights into MOME's trailblazing University of the Future initiative, which aims to reinvent educational structures and approaches.

As an added bonus, visitors to MOME on 22 November can explore a special exhibition, opening the day before, featuring a curated selection of works by István Bányai. Celebrated graphic artist and designer of the iconic Zoom, István Bányai was a defining figure in the history of press and magazines. Known for his work with The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, New York, and Playboy, he would have turned 75 this year. To honour his legacy, his alma mater, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), will present a selection of his work in an exhibition this November, offering a contemporary perspective on his oeuvre for the first time in Hungary.

The Best of MOME – Challenging Future exhibition at the Spatial Experimentation Studio features standout diploma projects from MOME’s recent graduates, presenting diverse and innovative solutions to future challenges with a fresh perspectives on the future of design, animation, architecture, interaction design, and photography.

We warmly encourage everyone who is eager to experience the true MOME vibe firsthand to spend a day at the Zugliget campus on 22 November. For those unable to join in person, the majority of the programmes will be streamed online.

The MOME Directorate for Grants and Development has closed an outstanding year, securing multimillion-euro funding for a diverse range of research projects, including AR Symposium, Zenctuary VR+, and Waterside Voices. These projects span fields as diverse as urban development, nature conservation, contemporary dance, and the application of cutting-edge VR technology in healthcare. For the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), bringing its projects to life to address the complex challenges of the 21st century is a top priority. As state funding is becoming increasingly scarce, securing and effectively utilising grant opportunities has emerged as a critical strategic focus.

What makes MOME appealing to young people? This question was explored in depth by the MOME delegation at the 8th Konnekt Live Career Orientation Festival that included designer and lecturer Dániel Ruppert, Animation student Enikő Svarcz, Textile Design BA student András Parag, and graphic designer and MOME alumna Dóra Sirály. In a discussion with the audience aged 16 to 20, the team shared insights into their respective fields, explained the admission process, and discussed the career opportunities available to MOME graduates.

On the Boundary Lines, a selection of contemporary jewellery created by current and former students of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design is now on display in six dedicated cases in the Dome Hall of the Hungarian National Museum. These pieces form part of the newly opened Shine! – The Era of Jewellery exhibition, which spans from prehistoric times to the present day. Alongside historical artefacts, the MOME works highlight the diversity and innovation of contemporary jewellery design. The selection features themes central to MOME’s design philosophy, including nature, space, the body, memory, and imagination.
