MOME GRADUATION 2023

Date: 2023.05.26
One of the most important events in the life of nearly 250 students will take place shortly. The diploma defences will be held between 5 and 21 June, and like in previous years, many of them will be open to the public. The Diploma Exhibition of masterworks will be on display on 17 and 18 June at several locations across the Campus. Once again, MOME’s graduation ceremony will feature world-renowned creative professionals and artists whose career and oeuvre can serve as a model for students.

The MOME Graduation event series includes several major activities, from the portrait photo shoot setting the mood for the coming month, to the diploma award ceremony.

Each year, a student or group of students is selected, based on their entries submitted, to develop a concept for and shoot the portrait photos of graduating students and design the visual identity for the graduation. This year, the graphic design was created by Graphic Design MA student Ágnes Petrucz, and the photographic works were completed by Csenge Petri and Márk Szabó (Photography BA).

These will appear in various platforms, such as social media, the graduation ceremony, and the online interface showcasing each graduating student complete with an archive including all MOME graduating student portrait photos, thesis, and masterwork abstract, as well as graduation visual identities since 2008.

The public MA diploma defences, taking place at three university locations over a period of two weeks, will involve students presenting their completed masterworks to the examination committee. The detailed schedule for each MA programme with the dates, times, and venues, as well as information about the exhibition will be available on a graduation-related subsite.

Following completion of the diploma defences, a two-day exhibition with masterworks, as well as students designs and concepts by MA students from all four institutes – Architecture, Design, Media, and Theoretical Studies – ranging from prototypes through mock-ups to visual designs will be shown at various locations around the Zugligeti út Campus.

The event series will conclude with the graduation ceremony, providing graduating students with takeaway and inspiration for the future. Once again, the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design is inviting prominent and internationally acclaimed creative industry professionals to speak. This year, the BA diploma ceremony will feature Academy Award winning film director of Hungarian descent Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, and the MA diploma ceremony Paola Antonelli, world-famous architect, Senior Curator and Director of Research and Development at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.  For more information...

The MOME Directorate for Grants and Development has closed an outstanding year, securing multimillion-euro funding for a diverse range of research projects, including AR Symposium, Zenctuary VR+, and Waterside Voices. These projects span fields as diverse as urban development, nature conservation, contemporary dance, and the application of cutting-edge VR technology in healthcare. For the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), bringing its projects to life to address the complex challenges of the 21st century is a top priority. As state funding is becoming increasingly scarce, securing and effectively utilising grant opportunities has emerged as a critical strategic focus.

What makes MOME appealing to young people? This question was explored in depth by the MOME delegation at the 8th Konnekt Live Career Orientation Festival that included designer and lecturer Dániel Ruppert, Animation student Enikő Svarcz, Textile Design BA student András Parag, and graphic designer and MOME alumna Dóra Sirály. In a discussion with the audience aged 16 to 20, the team shared insights into their respective fields, explained the admission process, and discussed the career opportunities available to MOME graduates.

On the Boundary Lines, a selection of contemporary jewellery created by current and former students of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design is now on display in six dedicated cases in the Dome Hall of the Hungarian National Museum. These pieces form part of the newly opened Shine! – The Era of Jewellery exhibition, which spans from prehistoric times to the present day. Alongside historical artefacts, the MOME works highlight the diversity and innovation of contemporary jewellery design. The selection features themes central to MOME’s design philosophy, including nature, space, the body, memory, and imagination.
