Date of hackathon
23-25 February 2023
Auditorium @ MOME Campus
MOME Innovation Center is joining forces with the British Council Hungary and Microsoft to host a hackathon for young people to explore and showcase the power of artificial intelligence for the common good.

AI is seen as a technology that has the power to solve some of the biggest global challenges facing us today. Young people have the power to influence the future of AI and whether it will be used as a tool for shaping solutions to real problems. It is a field in which they will be called to act critically, influence others and support wider society.

We are inviting young people aged 18 to 35 years who are passionate about sustainability and interested in innovation and creative problem-solving to work together in interdisciplinary teams and create AI-based solutions to social and environmental challenges.

Who are we looking for?

Applicants should be between 18–35 and have a background in one of the following fields:

  • Environmental or social sciences
  • Design, business or entrepreneurship
  • Computer science or STEM

Note: There is no need to be an expert on AI to participate as the hackathon will involve training on AI fundamental principles! Mentors will support each team through the process. Find out more here.

What is the prize?

Pitch your solution to win a study trip to the UK and join the other winning teams from Greece, Cyprus, and Ireland! The study trip will take place 6-8 March 2023.

Selected teams may also participate in the MOME IC Incubation Program.

What are the topics?

Work in teams to design an AI-based web service that addresses:

  • climate change or
  • food waste.

Note: you will work in teams but you can also apply individually!

Spots are limited

The hackathon is able to accommodate up to 50 participants and we will request additional attendance confirmation prior to the event. We may prioritize teams who apply with a concept idea, but individual applications or applications with no concept are also encouraged to be submitted!

FAQs, agenda and contact

We have collected answers to the most frequently asked questions (FAQs). You can also check the detailed agenda of the three days.

This hackathon is designed to help you become an AI protagonist - understand what AI is; learn how to adapt to a constantly changing intelligence landscape; and build skills that allow you to take ethical control of the development and use of AI.

Through this hackathon you will be able to identify ways in which AI is contributing to you lives today; what applications should AI be used for; and how AI can be used to address some of the biggest challenges we face.
