Lecture by Vladan Joler | Cartography and genealogy of technology and power | MOME Global Voices

Professor of New Media at the University of Novi Sad, Founder of SHARE Lab, researcher, and artist Vladan Joler will visit MOME next week to give a public lecture titled Cartography and Genealogy of Technology and Power.

Known for its “indie data punk” approach, SHARE Lab investigates the hidden infrastructures of the internet, exploring digital rights and data security through independent research based on data collection and visualisation. Its mission is to make the invisible networks of information flow visible – for instance, by mapping the internal pyramid structure of Facebook.

Joler, whose work has been exhibited at leading institutions including The Design Museum in London and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, uses data visualisation, critical design, and counter-cartography to map out the opacity of algorithms, the exploitation of digital labour, and the hidden dimensions of technological infrastructures.

The event is sponsored by Global Voices.

„Global society has not yet understood the distinction between physical expansion and qualitative development. It has passed the stage where more physical expansion is desirable. No widely-shared global goal is now served by having more people or material goods. Now it is important to learn how to advance the development of our species - achieving equity, peace, psychological balance, physical health, environmental quality.” (Dennis Meadows, co-author of Limits to Growth)
