Minta 77 – Book Launch

The publication MINTA 77 / PATTERN 77, produced by the Centre for Craft and Design, has been released, drawing on MOME’s printed material collection.

Printed textile design education at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design began 77 years ago, in 1949, with the establishment of the Textile Department at the former Hungarian College of Applied Arts, including a new department dedicated to printed textile design. The programme marked a shift from decorative arts towards industrial design, reproducible pattern design, materials knowledge, and technological experimentation.

In 2026, the first volume of a selection from the university’s printed pattern collection is published to mark this anniversary, presenting the work of former students from the agitprop scarves and printed patterns of the 1950s through to the period of political transition, organised by decade. The original designs are still held by their alma mater.
