Requirements
Project proposal, Portfolio
- Researcher/designer project proposal
- Documentation of artistic and professional achievements to date (portfolio).
Language exam
Certificate of at least one intermediate (B2 level) combined written and oral English-language exam recognised in Hungary (languages accepted: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian)
Master’s degree
Certificate of a Master’s degree corresponding to the art/design education areas of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design In justified cases, the admission committee may accept certificates of different Master’s degrees.
Application procedure
1.step
1st admission round: upload of documents
March 2, 2026 - April 1, 2026, 11:59 p.m.
You can start the application process by clicking on APPLICATION after opening the interface. After completing the application form, applicants will receive a reply letter with information about the documents to be uploaded and how to upload them.
Documents to be uploaded for DLA training programs:
- copy of master's degree certificate (in the case of a foreign master's degree, a request for recognition must be submitted).
- copy of language exam certificate
- declaration of authenticity of official documents
- detailed professional CV
- portfolio: documentation of artistic and design achievements to date - design documentation, list of works, presentation, publications
- research topic proposal (project proposal, min. 3600 - max. 10,000 characters with spaces)
- statement of support from the chosen supervisor
- proof of payment of the application fee
Please note: It is not possible to submit the application form and the required attachments at a later date, with the exception of the master's degree and language exam documents, which can be submitted as supplementary documents no later than the day before the oral exam (expected in mid-June).
2.step
2nd admission round: interview
Second half of June 2026: oral exams
The documents submitted for the first round will be examined by the DLA Admissions Committee, consisting of at least three members elected by the University's Habilitation and Doctoral Council, which will decide on admission to the second round based on a scoring system. The chair of the Committee is the head of the Doctoral School. To advance to the second round, applicants must obtain at least 70% of the available points.
All applicants will be notified of the results of the first round at the email address provided by May 15, 2026, at the latest.
Applicants will be notified of the exact date and schedule of the oral exam by email.
During the oral interview, the Committee will determine the ranking based on the application materials and the results of the oral exam. The scoring criteria are published below on the Doctoral Application page.
The university reserves the right to change the period and method of the oral exam. Any changes will be published on the university's website on the Doctoral Application page.
3.step
July 2026: Decision
The University Habilitation and Doctoral Council decides on admission and the allocation of scholarship places based on the recommendations of the Admissions Committee. The results of the admissions decision will be published anonymously on the Doctoral School website under the Documents menu.
The university will send official notification of the admission decision by registered mail by August 31, 2026.
Doctoral students admitted to the program will be notified of the registration period and the necessary steps to be taken.
Scoring
Entrance examination scoring:
- give a score of 1–10 for the creative/design portfolio, publication, or reference paper submitted for the application.
- give a score of 1–10 for the research plan submitted for the application (criteria: professional standards, innovative content, structure, and relevance for the MOME Doctoral School)
- give a score of 1–10 for the oral interview (criteria: professional competence, communication skills)
Weighting
The scores are further weighted in Round 2:
- portfolio - 33,3%
- research plan – 33,3%
- oral interview – 33,3%
Funding
State-funded form
Pursuant to Act CCIV of 2011 on National Higher Education, the costs of state-funded programmes are covered by the state budget, while the costs of self-funded programmes are borne by the student.
Self-funded form (for EU students)
The tuition fee for self-funded programmes for Hungarian citizens, or students who are subject to the same treatment as Hungarian citizens pursuant to legal regulations or international agreements, including students with the right of free movement and residence, is HUF 300,000/semester.
Self-funded form (for non-EU students)
For citizens of non-EU countries, the self-funded tuition fee is HUF 700,000/semester.
