MOME successes at the 25th National Graphic Design Biennale

Date: 2026.03.11
The National Graphic Design Biennale was held for the twenty-fifth time, marking five decades as one of the most significant professional showcases of Hungarian graphic design, with a history regarded as exemplary even by international standards. The anniversary edition saw an exceptionally large number of MOME-affiliated designers feature prominently among the awardees, including lecturers as well as former and current students, while two MOME lecturers also served on the awarding jury.

Members of the biennale jury included dr. habil. Dóra Balla DLA and Péter Bence Simon DLA, both lecturers at MOME. Other members were Ernő Sára, prof. dr. István Erős DLA, Tamás Felsmann DLA, and Andrea Brittnek DLA. The exhibition opening and award ceremony took place on 5 March 2026 in the Barcsay Hall of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where the exhibition was opened by dr. habil. DLA Dóra Balla.

A total of eight hundred works were submitted to the biennale, with three hundred selected for the exhibition. Several MOME-affiliated designers received prestigious awards: the György Konecsni Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to József Árendás, a former student of MOME’s predecessor institution, the Hungarian College of Applied Arts, who had also studied under Konecsni himself. The shared award of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation went to Adrienn Császár, lecturer at MOME, together with Nóra Kaszanyi and Andrej Tóth, both MOME alumni. The MOME Professional Award was given to third-year MOME Graphic Design BA student Eszter Tünde Fodor, while the METU Professional Award was presented to second-year MOME Graphic Design MA student Péter Tóth.

Other award recipients at the biennale included Classmate Studio and Ferenc Kassai (shared award of the Hungarian Academy of Arts), Marcell Kazsik, as well as Richárd Lakosi / Krisztián Lakosi and Dániel Sárosi (shared award of the City of Békéscsaba), together with Fanni Molnár, Dániel István Bibó, and Mikhail Lychovskiy.

The exhibition of the 25th National Graphic Design Biennale is open until 19 March 2026 in the Barcsay Hall of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (1062 Budapest, Andrássy út 69–71.). Admission is free.

With profound sorrow, we say goodbye to Chief of Cabinet to the Rector Nikoletta Lakatos, who passed away at the age of barely 40 after a sudden and aggressive illness. Her career was cut tragically short, yet its impact far exceeded the time she had, and it is hard to accept that someone who brought such warmth and vitality is no longer here with us.
