The title is important because the experimental textile movement from the 70s on was all about reinventing textile art and, as a result, the gradual development of its independence, and ultimately, its elevation to grand art. This obviously includes autonomy.  
Like all art movements, experimental textile also created and use a radical language.  Material experiments and technology switches were perceived as ongoing destructive activities, and the original, functional textile items lost their previous meaning. The resulting objects behaved exactly like works of fine art (paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations), only they were made from a different material, textile, if that.  

After 10, 15 years, this process reached a mature stage and at the same time came to an end, by the first half of the 80s. Understanding the cultural political situation in which it all took place is essential. Exhibitions could take place, though preferably far from Budapest, in Szombathely, Eger, Székesfehérvár, i.e. far from the public eye.
