Friss Kakas (Fresh Rooster) Animation Film Days

Organised by MOME Anim and the Fresh Meat Festival, the Fresh Rooster Animation Film Days will take place for the third year in a row at Toldi Cinema in Budapest. This two-day event aims to bring together industry professionals and animation enthusiasts, providing a platform to present MOME’s internationally acclaimed diploma films in a fitting local setting.

Alongside new works and the latest diploma films from MOME students, audiences will also be treated to a selection of the best diploma and exam films from recent years, as well as feature-length animations. This year's programme highlights the resurgence of stop-motion animation, showcasing MOME diploma films created using this technique, alongside retrospective screenings celebrating 110 years of Hungarian animation.

In addition to the films, the festival will host a range of professional events, including a masterclass by Oscar-winning director Jan Pinkava. A special segment will also honour Ernő Rubik, celebrating two significant anniversaries this year.

Working at the intersection of fiction and documentary, and stage and background, German film and video artist Julian Rosefeldt combines cinematography, architecture, theatre and literature in his installations. Particularly interested in the relationship between stage and background, the visible and the hidden, the original and the imitation, his films not only evoke social narratives but also reflect on the moving image itself being an archive, a factory of myths and an experimental space.

„Global society has not yet understood the distinction between physical expansion and qualitative development. It has passed the stage where more physical expansion is desirable. No widely-shared global goal is now served by having more people or material goods. Now it is important to learn how to advance the development of our species - achieving equity, peace, psychological balance, physical health, environmental quality.” (Dennis Meadows, co-author of Limits to Growth)
