FUTURE MATERIALS CONFERENCE ’25
How can an idea be turned into a viable, sustainable material solution that can be applied on an industrial scale? This year’s edition of the Future Materials conference turns the spotlight on the challenges of circular material use, and once again brings together leading voices from industry and academia.
The programme focuses on materials for the circular economy, the social responsibility of material innovation, and the role of material science in shaping the future. Built on a holistic, systems-based approach, it features case studies, pilot projects, and international examples, along with a series of hands-on workshops.
Speakers include:
- Bas van Abel, founder of Fairphone
- Katharina Jose, Professor of CMF Design in Vehicle Interiors at Reutlingen University and former CMF Lead at Lynk & Co
- N O R M A L S, a Berlin-based design studio (details under wraps for now, but worth keeping an eye on)
- Chris Lefteri, internationally recognised authority on surface design, whose eight books have fundamentally reshaped how designers around the world think about materials
- Ron Wakkary, Professor in the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University, Canada, and founder of the Everyday Design Studio
Workshops will be led by: - Juszuff Kovács, on combining 3D printing with ceramics
- Studio Nima, on the journey of biobased materials from the lab towards wider application
- Barbara Pollini, on how design can support biodiversity through the creation of sculptural objects
- Davide Gomba, introducing TinyML and how it can be put to use by designers
And that’s not all: expect hemp, mycelium, and much more. A dedicated session will also showcase the latest in French–Hungarian collaborative material research, complete with live interpretation.
