How can design address the issues of the future? What is the role of design in society and a designer’s job in our age? Where will design expertise become most crucial in the coming years?

Students enrolled in the B2D course can now rely on a curriculum that is fresh, authentic, and rich in case studies to help them prepare for the challenges of the creative industries. Not only will they have the opportunity to learn from distinguished creative professionals invited as guest speakers, but soon have access to a video series created through ongoing development efforts and featuring founders of renowned companies such as DE_FORM, YKRA, and Flying Objects.

Organised by the MOME Animation programme, the event brought together media artists and dancers to explore how technology transforms our personal lives, social interactions, and physical presence.

As new wars break out, species die out, the planet is warming, glaciers are melting, forests are disappearing, and humanity is threatened by mass extinction, we can witness firsthand how the natural environment, evolved over millions of years, is irrevocably altered by the impact of the last two centuries. How can photography and visual arts respond to these crises unfolding on multiple fronts? This was discussed in the spring semester of 2024, between 2 and 5 April by interdisciplinary curator, sociologist, researcher, and activist Krzysztof Candrowicz invited by the Photography MA programme.

Can stories be told through textiles, and what messages can they carry? The Poznań Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts released issue 44 of the Zeszyty Artystyczne (Artistic Notes) magazine under the title Textile Art: In the face of contemporary times, covering contemporary endeavours in textile art, which has become an independent artistic branch after a long time.

CheckINN Revitalisator 2024, the joint idea competition of CheckINN Turisztikai Innovációmenedzsment Kft. and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design has just kicked off, with a cash prize of HUF 3 million for the team with the best revitalisation idea. The competition is inviting entries by mostly architecture and tourism and hospitality students for reinventing rust zone sites, giving abandoned industrial buildings a new purpose while preserving their original values and making an appreciable touristic impact.

Mini animation spots capturing the momentum and vibe of Budapest were designed by MOME Anim students to promote the MyBudapest application. The animations feature several iconic locations, including Trafo, Toldi Cinema, Gellért Hill, and thermal baths, presented by the students using their own experiences.

The second semester of the MOME Service Design specialised training kicked off with a four-day intensive workshop with lead service designers of Laerdel Medical’s Norwegian centre Katalin Dóczi-Nagy and Antonia Fedlmeier, involving the students in the development of a currently running live project.

Works by our former and current Ceramic Design students were featured in an exhibition as part of the National Ceramics Art Triennale in Pécs at the Zsolnay Quarter, and won awards in several categories.

Even in its dilapidated state, the Batthyány Manor in Sitke captures the imagination of passersby. This inspiring architectural complex was the subject of a week-long course at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, and there are expectations for further collaboration with the descendants of the Batthyány family owning the house. The revitalisation project is centred around a plan for a contemporary nursing home that would also help uphold and perpetuate local values.

The 24th Graphic Design Biennale took place in early March at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, with exhibitions by various students and teachers from the MOME Graphic Design BA and MA programmes.
