The awarding of this year’s Deák Erika Grant has taken place

The winning entry of Design Theory MA student Brigitta Ádi, this year’s recipient of the Deák Erika Grant, explored the character of urban public spaces through the ephemeral and location-specific artistic interventions of the early 90s.

Since 2020, students of MOME’s Institute for Theoretical Studies can apply for the 1-year grant that specifically helps emerging theoreticians and curators.

The HUF 500,000 grant is awarded to a senior Design Theory MA or Art and Design Management MA student graduating in the year of submitting the application and selected by a jury of three, consisting of university teachers and professionals.

For the first time, Erika Deák, founder of the eponymous grant and owner of the Erika Deák contemporary fine art gallery, also participated in the decision-making.
“I want to help by enabling the new generation of theoreticians and curators to see the big picture in contemporary art instead of getting lost in the details”, she said.

At her initiative, the grant has been awarded as part of the collaboration to altogether 5 students over 5 years. The aim of the grant is to support one graduating student each year carrying out in-depth research in the field of contemporary art, and to help develop and strengthen the students’ professional attitudes.

A “Tomorrow Belongs to You” scholarship recipient will study at MOME Designer-Maker programme

Iris Aruwa, who graduated from the Ceramic programme at the Secondary School of Visual and Applied Arts, will continue her studies at MOME’s Designer-Maker programme from September. New rector of MOME Pál Koós comes from the field of product design

As of 1 August, the role of rector of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design will be filled by industrial designer and university professor Pál Koós, who has made significant contributions to the growth and advancement of the Hungarian design profession. As a designer, he has received numerous accolades both domestically and internationally. At the same time, he is an example of a true MOME citizen by virtue of not just earning his degrees and qualifications at the university, but also successfully serving the community for many years as a leader of the curriculum development team and as a teacher.

MOME to feature at the Campus exhibition of the Ars Electronica 2024 festival

Our University has been invited to exhibit at one of the world's most prestigious digital art festivals, the Ars Electronica 2024. Each year, the Campus series of the long-standing festival presents an art university. This year's exhibition is organised in collaboration with the University of Linz, and will feature outstanding student diploma works from recent years in Linz's main square selected by curators Judit Eszter Kárpáti, Esteban de la Torre, and Ágoston Nagy.
