Everything you ever wanted to know about MOME The Open Day 2024 is coming up

Date: 2024.10.20
What will the University of the Future, the student of the future, and the artist of the future look like? At the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME)’s 2024 Open Day on 25 October, you’ll have the chance to explore programmes such as Product Design, Animation, Design Culture, Photography, and Designer-Maker. You can also explore the inspiring spaces of one of the leading creative universities in the region, the sports facilities, the park, and the University of the Future project, and pick up essential tips on building a winning admissions portfolio.

Separate BA and MA Open Days held in the autumn semester will allow you to visit the MOME Campus in person and learn more about the university. The Open Day is the perfect opportunity to get first-hand information about the academic programmes and campus facilities, and meet the university’s faculty, current students, and alumni.

The day will kick off with an animation screening, followed by a welcome speech by MOME’s new rector Pál Koós. Afterwards, lecturer and head of the Classical Studies School of the University of the Future programme Peter Pozsár DLA will introduce the University of the Future initiative aimed at shaping MOME’s new-generation educational model that offers bold, unique, and authentic responses to the challenges of the 21st century.

As part of the new model, the curriculum will feature more holistic courses, with students from all programmes studying together at the start of their university journey. These shared courses will teach students how to learn, think critically, engage in dialogue, and work in teams. The pre-specialisation courses aim to pass on core philosophical and artistic knowledge, reminiscent of the Renaissance traditions of the first European universities.

From 11 a.m., you can enjoy presentations from each BA programme, including alumni talks, screenings, and Q&A sessions with personalised information. You’ll learn how to assemble a standout portfolio, what it takes to graduate, and what career paths MOME graduates can take.

At MOME Ground, you can discover various university initiatives: enjoy a Lunch Breakbeat DJ set, and learn about MOME Zero, the university’s sustainability programme. This initiative has already resulted in the planting of forests and establishing an apiary, with a community garden next in line. You’ll also get a glimpse into the work of other university organisations like the Student Hub, the Student Council, and the Student Service Centre and Registrar’s Office, which will provide details about the Pannonia Scholarship Programme. In addition, there will be bronze casting and glassmaking demonstrations, along with information desks for the PreMOME and the Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future scholarship programme.

Also at the Ground, you can enjoy an exciting university-wide exhibition titled Sequences of Ideas: Shared Visions in Design which will showcase the works of winners of the Stefan Lengyel Scholarship of Excellence launched in 2020. Projects on display include a hearing aid reimagined as jewellery, a video game supporting mental health, an IoT system for residents’ health and safety, an AI-powered knitting machine, and several urban revitalisation projects. The exhibition will feature an interactive concept to engage visitors, and the installation, true to the theme, is made from recycled materials, produced locally, and assembled from modular components.

Throughout the day, you can get answers to all your questions, whether about admission requirements, portfolios, the structure of the programmes, or internships. Attendance is free but requires prior registration. Due to high demand, we kindly ask that you bring no more than one guest.

What place do folklore, climate protection, or isolation have on the runway? What does fashion and fashion design mean to Gen Z? How are the centres and peripheries of the fashion industry shifting in the 21st century? These are just some of the questions explored at this year’s MOME Fashion Show through collections reflecting the latest design thinking and a series of special accompanying events.

Two dedicated members of the faculty have been presented with this year’s Aurum Futuri (Gold of the Future) Award: art historian, curator, and lecturer Kinga German PhD, and design culture researcher and aesthetic theorist Ákos Schneider PhD. Both are professionals who believe in the transformative power of design and education, and whose impact reaches well beyond MOME itself. Now in its third year, the Aurum Futuri Award recognises MOME’s most outstanding educators and researchers, highlighting the value they create through mentoring, educational renewal, and research.
