Startup Safari: shaping future collaborations at MOME

Date: 2025.05.14
In 2025, the Startup Safari took place for the tenth year running, marking it as the largest community event in Hungary's startup ecosystem. Over the course of two days, it brought together 700 participants, featuring 200 sessions across seven venues. One of the most exciting programme offerings was presented at the Zugligeti campus. On the second day of the conference, MOME not only served as the venue but also hosted professional events that introduced participants to the university's forward-thinking projects and groundbreaking collaborations.

This year’s milestone event explored topics including the role of newly emerging, affordable AI platforms, the relationship between fintech and the economy, and the dynamics between large pharmaceutical companies and the medtech sector, while also providing emerging future leaders with the opportunity to make their debut. Visitors to the campus were introduced to the university’s mission, goals, and ongoing innovative projects, and gained valuable insights from key industry speakers, as well as practical knowledge that could help them take their careers to the next level. For instance, Dr. Flóra Anna Gubicz’s workshop covered how to consciously build a brand with a strategic focus on intellectual property, including essential aspects like logo selection, trademark registration, and the basics of trademark law crucial for brand development.

In the session What Makes a Successful Corporate-University Collaboration?, Director of Technology Transfer and Business Development at MOME Dalma Berkovics led a discussion with key business partners, including SALT's Dalma Kormos, British Council's Georgina Szilágyi, and Telekom's Péter Trembeczki. The conversation focused on why businesses choose to collaborate with universities to achieve their innovative goals, and what universities can offer that market players cannot. The panel also discussed potential pitfalls and the key to success in collaborative work, highlighting MOME’s successful partnerships, such as the development of mycelium-hemp plates for premium restaurants with SALT and transformative cultural projects with the British Council.

Research Lead at the MOME Future School Attila Bujdosó gave a thought-provoking lecture on the role of designers in the startup ecosystem, highlighting how design universities can contribute to the startup scene and support the creation of more successful startups.

The event concluded with the Powered by MOME session, where attendees explored forward-thinking projects that could bring tangible changes to future generations.

Alongside the theoretical discussions, the MOME Innovation Expo exhibition allowed visitors to experience these developments firsthand. The panel featured notable experts, including co-founder of the MOME Mobility Lab and founder of Ustory Branding Dániel Ruppert, lecturer at the MOME Mobility Lab and founder of Flying Objects András Hunfalvi, research associate at the MOME Future School’s Ecology and Action Lab Dóra Szentandrási PhD, materials researcher Nóra Gulya, researcher at the MOME Heritage in Motion LAB Brigitta Iványi-Bittner, and developer at Zenctuary VR Samuel Chovanec.

A Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetemre jelentkezni nem csupán egy képzési forma melletti döntést jelent, sokak számára hosszú ideje dédelgetett álom, szakmai és alkotói célkitűzés. Six participants in the ‘Tomorrow Belongs to You – For the creative talents of the future’ 2025 scholarship programme are about to begin their BA studies at MOME, while three others have been admitted to the University of Szeged, Óbuda University, and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. The numbers speak for themselves: the second cohort of the scholarship, launched in 2023, has truly helped its students take their first steps towards a creative career, transforming them from high schoolers into university students.
