doctoral student

Borbála Timár is studying for a PhD at the MOME Doctoral School. She focuses on the relationship between digital well-being and design, investigating how the digital media environment affects our emotions and how we can develop our digital emotional awareness.

Biography

Borbála Timár is an expert on digital child protection and she is also a media trainer. She was a secondary school Hungarian and media teacher, and she has been involved in media education since 2005. She has developed a number of educational materials on media literacy, trained teachers, held workshops for children and parents, and written professional background material, initially independently from 2011, and then as a civil servant from 2019. She continues to work in this field. Her work includes keeping abreast of the literature and trends in the field, and speaking at various conferences. A number of years ago, she realised that traditional ways of teaching media literacy were no longer capable of responding to many of the issues in the changing digital media environment, which is why she turned to research. The concept of digital well-being, which she chose as the topic of her doctoral research, frames both individual and social aspects, as well as the perspectives and needs of various stakeholders (users and designers), thus opening new perspectives on approaching the subject.
