Can you eat all

Have you eaten enough?
Project overview
An exploration of anorexia as a socially stigmatised condition through the design of a symbolic object group

Dorottya Vértessy: Can you eat all?
Supervisor: Edit Kondor

Vértessy Dorottya’s project addresses one of the most widespread eating disorders, anorexia nervosa. In Hungary, it is one of the psychiatric disorders with the highest mortality rates; currently, there are at least 30,000 diagnosed anorexia patients, and one in 12 will lose their life within ten years due to complications from the illness. Based on consultations with both specialists and patients, the project focuses on the social stigmatisation of and sceptical attitudes towards the disorder, drawing attention to its psychological background and the personal mental aspects involved.

To raise social awareness of the severity of the issue, an absurd collection of ceramic objects has been created, whose primary function is to convey a conceptual message. Through a complex combination of visual and tactile elements, the object group symbolises the intricate mental processes experienced by those living with anorexia. It explores behaviours associated with the disorder, interpreting and emphasising their typical characteristics, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of their significance.
