Memorial Cubes

Project overview
The small concrete cubes located outside the Zugligeti Road façade of the MOME TWO building, in a quiet memorial grove pay homage to our great role models – our architecture teachers.

Its history dates back to 1995, when the community of the MOME Architecture Institute commemorated their former teachers by planting trees. They first planted a quince tree in honour of former head of the Department of Architecture György Szrogh, followed by a red oak tree in memory of architect, former vice-rector and head of the Doctoral School Péter Reimholz.

On the initiative of Reimholz’s widow, architect Zsófia Csomay, who also teaches at MOME, a memorial cube made of plywood was added. This was soon replaced by a more durable concrete version, and the same variety was placed next to Szrogh’s tree. Later on, trees were planted in memory of director of Tölgyfa Gallery Ferenc Bodor, and József Király, who taught at the University for 30 years, with a memorial cube next to each. When the new campus was created, the park was also transformed, and the small concrete cubes found their new, current home.
