Nagy Tamás Bench

Project overview
A pre-eminent architect of post-regime change Hungary, Tamás Nagy (1951–2020) was a prominent teacher at the Architecture Institute.

His innovations in architecture education remain in use to this day, including the revival of summer work camps and taking them to a professional level, and introducing hands-on practice into training. Following his untimely death, in 2022 his students rallied to design an exhibition in his memory, and as a part of this, an object that would have a useful function for the community.

The bench provided an opportunity to encapsulate their memories in a lasting artwork. The installation finally took place in 2023, in a quiet but not out-of-the-way section of the park between the MASTER building and the Gond-űző, suited to quiet contemplation, and appropriate for remembering the great educator Tamás Nagy was and the fifteen years he spent here training future generations of architects.
