Curatorial talk - Krzysztof Candrowicz: Visual activism

The diverse work of Polish curator, researcher, and activist Krzysztof Candrowicz will be the topic of the next edition of the Curatorial Talks series on 4 April.

There is no need to describe in detail the critical moment we are facing; the news updates us on a daily basis. While new wars and conflicts are erupting, species are dying, glaciers are melting, forests are vanishing, the planet is heating up and the human race is facing the threat of massive extinction. We are watching it live, seeing how the natural richness that was born over the last millions of years has almost disappeared in front of our eyes within practically the last two hundred years. Through photography and visual art, we can respond to this ongoing planetary crisis. Visual activism is a persuasive and captivating form of engagement that pulls the power of imagery to inspire social and political change. While using stirring and authentic narratives, visual activism sparks dialogue, raises awareness, and catalyses action, serving as an outstanding tool for those seeking to shape a more just and equitable world.

Krzysztof Candrowicz is an interdisciplinary curator, sociologist, researcher, project facilitator and activist. Krzysztof works internationally as a guest curator and visiting lecturer in numerous organisations, museums, schools, and festivals in Europe.
Besides being active in visual arts, his interests are rooted in philosophy, social science, anthropology, ecology and natural science.
