Hello, bees 2.0! | Hive Installation and Honey Extraction at the MOME Campus

A year ago, Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design launched its own apiary with ecological and educational goals. The aim was to ensure that the university community could contribute to environmental sustainability not just in theory, but also in practice. Through bee-focused activities and educational programs, the initiative also seeks to shape students’ perspectives on nature and sustainability.

The university’s apiary began with two bee colonies – the Tót and the Mézga family – and not long after the MOME bees got to work, the university produced its own honey, "MOMÉZ”. Following several successful workshops and communal honey harvests, the colony will expand with two additional bee families this year, on 30 April, in celebration of Bee Day!

During the event, led by beekeeper Tamás Kutasi, we’ll discuss the crucial role bees play in nature, take a look inside the hives, get to know the new colonies, and even extract fresh honey.

The event is in Hungarian only.

Participation is safe; closed clothing is recommended.

„Global society has not yet understood the distinction between physical expansion and qualitative development. It has passed the stage where more physical expansion is desirable. No widely-shared global goal is now served by having more people or material goods. Now it is important to learn how to advance the development of our species - achieving equity, peace, psychological balance, physical health, environmental quality.” (Dennis Meadows, co-author of Limits to Growth)

At the event, psychologists and therapists will give short introductions to their work with these tools before participants break into themed small-group discussions. These sessions will explore key ethical, design, and impact-assessment questions around VR-based therapies, such as How can the effects of VR experiences be measured? What ethical dilemmas does the virtual environment introduce in therapeutic contexts? And how can VR be tailored for older adults or other vulnerable groups?
