Community agreement to secure the future of MOME and the stability of the university community

Date: 2025.02.23
The Foundation for the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design has proposed that the university's citizens sign a new community agreement to safeguard the institution's peaceful operation and continuation of its renewal. The Foundation's goal is to establish the principles of collaboration together with the university's citizens and strengthen mutual trust.

The MOME Foundation is committed to the development of the university and the continuation of the University of the Future programme that underpins it. The reforms, which began five years ago, aim for MOME to become an internationally known and recognised art university that values its citizens. The Foundation emphasises that the ongoing transformation process cannot be reversed, as the institution enjoys exceptional support in return.

The MOME Foundation affirms that the Senate, as the guardian of the university’s autonomy, independently determines the institution’s professional activities. The Foundation makes it clear that the Senate’s leading role is guaranteed, and that any major decision concerning the university’s structure can only be made through consensus between the Foundation and the university’s leadership.

Regarding the demands recently put forward by MOME Front, the Foundation expresses its openness but emphasises that any disputes regarding the university's operations must be settled according to the applicable laws. The MOME Foundation is ready to consider any suggestions that serve the university’s best interests, but these will need to be discussed in dialogue with the university’s governing body, the Senate. A constructive collaboration between the Foundation and the Senate will ensure that MOME’s development can continue without disruption.

Community agreement: the basis for shared goals

The Foundation is now proposing an innovative community agreement, backed by the entire university community, in which MOME’s leadership, Senate, students, and other representative bodies, along with the university’s maintaining body, would jointly set out the principles for continuing the work of MOME’s revitalisation.  After democratic preparation, the official document would be signed by the university’s leadership and maintaining body.

The aim is to create a comprehensive, widely acceptable foundation that provides stability for MOME’s development and ensures predictability for the university community.  As the Foundation puts it, “The stakes are MOME’s future”.

Q&Alumni sorozatunk következő részében Tóth Ádámmal beszélgettünk, aki 2018-ban végzett a MOME-n formatervezőként. Ádám az aktív egyetemi évek után megalapította a Malom Projekt elnevezésű designstúdiót, amely termékfejlesztéssel, belsőépítészettel foglalkozik, műanyag és természetes anyagok újrahasznosításával kísérletezik, emellett kreatív foglalkozásokat is tart. Több projekten is együtt dolgozott a MOME-val is, például a tavaly elkészült Művészetek Völgye Pavilonon, amely idén is várja a látogatókat Kapolcson a MOME × Harcsa Veronika udvarban! Erről a projektről és még sok másról mesélt nekünk Ádám.
