Greetings by the President of the Foundation on the occasion of Gábor Kopek's 70th birthday

Date: 2025.01.27
Dear MOME Citizens, It’s my great pleasure to extend my heartfelt congratulations, on behalf of our entire university, to Gábor Kopek on his 70th birthday. Gábor is not only a former Rector of MOME but also a valued member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

We all know and appreciate his remarkable body of work and the significant contributions he has made to our university. While not all of our current students may have had the chance to meet him or engage in conversation with him, his personal initiative to name the institution after LászlĂł Moholy-Nagy ensures his vision continues to inspire the entire community. For those of us lucky enough to have worked alongside him, we have countless stories of the lessons we’ve learned from him, which we like to share whenever the occasion arises.

Gábor’s approach to leadership is a living legacy here in Zugliget. The reforms and innovations that the MOME community is collectively pursuing today – including, most notably, the drive to foster collaboration across disciplines – are a natural continuation of the path he set us on. As a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, he remains an active and invaluable contributor, offering advice and recommendations to guide us forward. It’s only fitting, as the goal remains the same: to build and maintain a Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design that strives for world-class excellence every day and engages in meaningful dialogue with the world’s leading creative institutions in the fields of art and design.

Dear Gábor,
Warmest congratulations and wishing you all the best on your 70th birthday!

27 January 2025

Another Hungarian animation is heading to Berlin: Janka Feiner’s diploma film, Fire in My Pocket, has been selected for the Generation Kplus competition programme at the Berlin International Film Festival. The nearly 10-minute film was created on the Animation MA programme of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, with the support of the National Film Institute Hungary. Set in a magical mushroom realm it opens a window onto children’s inner emotional lives, impressing the Berlinale selection committee with its blend of stop-motion with digital drawing animation.
In 2025, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design recorded a series of national and international achievements linked to health, wellbeing and sustainability, reinforcing the idea that community wellbeing at MOME is not an abstract value but a consciously built, long-term strategy.
