Healthy Campus Programme: Promoting Well-being and Community Building at MOME

Date: 2024.11.19
By joining the global FISU Healthy Campus programme, MOME has strengthened its commitment to fostering a health-conscious culture on Campus and offers diverse opportunities for students and staff to embrace a healthier lifestyle. With events spanning multiple dimensions, such as physical activity, mental well-being, nutrition, social responsibility, and sustainability, the programme takes a holistic approach to enhancing the well-being of the university community. Over the past months, MOME has not only hosted various events but also joined international initiatives like the BeActive campaign and the Let’s Move for Paris movement, both inspired by the spirit of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On 4 September, MOME, in collaboration with the V30 Downtown Sports Centre, hosted a Sports and Wellness Day. Participants had the chance to undergo various health screenings aimed at prevention and promoting health awareness. InBody devices were used to assess body composition, muscle mass, and body fat percentage, providing a precise understanding of physical condition and tailored lifestyle advice. They also proved highly effective in evaluating individuals with chronic illnesses, making them an ideal and convenient tool for health management. In addition to these advanced screenings, classic health checks like blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol testing were available, alongside other basic assessments.

However, the day wasn't solely focused on checking physical health as participants were encouraged to engage in physical activities, reinforcing the message that exercise is integral to well-being.

The BeActive campaign, introduced as part of the European Week of Sport, added variety to the day by promoting physical activity across borders. Participants had the opportunity to try out ten different sports ranging from climbing and basketball to volleyball and yoga across two locations: the MOME Campus and the V30 Centre. This campaign aimed to inspire the university community to get moving and offered local residents a rare opportunity to enjoy recreational activities and lifestyle guidance free of charge.  The shared experience of physical activity fostered both a sense of community and a health-conscious mindset within MOME's immediate and broader circles.

Supporting balanced nutrition is another cornerstone of MOME’s health initiatives. The Fruit Day campaign – a simple yet impactful initiative – encourages daily fruit consumption by providing fresh fruit to students and staff. Following its initial success, MOME plans to make fresh fruit available year-round by 2025, making it even easier for community members to access healthy food and maintain a vibrant, balanced lifestyle.

MOME also joined the Let’s Move for Paris campaign, launched by Technogym in connection with the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.  This global initiative champions physical activity in all forms, from games to sports. MOME promoted the Olympic spirit as part of the Sports and Wellness Day by encouraging community exercising and highlighting the unifying and inspiring power of sport.  The programme involves participants collecting MOVE units – measured by Technogym’s proprietary activity tracking system – aiming to achieve higher activity levels together.

Through its active participation in the FISU Healthy Campus programme, MOME is incorporating health-conscious thinking and living into university life.  Recent events, including the Sports and Wellness Day, the BeActive campaign, Fruit Day, and Let’s Move for Paris, have extended beyond promoting physical activity and nutrition. They not only provide opportunities to try out sports and learn about a healthy lifestyle but also strengthen social connections, build bridges across diverse backgrounds and interests, and foster MOME’s inclusive spirit and sense of belonging.
