“I am not looking to spoon-feed people the answers” – Domonkos Varga’s portfolio

Domonkos Varga (winner of the the Stefan Lengyel Excelence Scholarship 2022) used to focus almost exclusively on documentary photography, but he soon realised he wanted to find his own voice, along with a style with which he could fully identify.

He completed his first personal project, Res Materialis, as a second-year student, and the series – in addition to earning positive feedback – completely changed the visual character of his works. Since then, his projects have been based on the deconstruction of various social phenomena and ideologies. He makes no secret of the fact that his goal is to raise awareness about today’s major issues through his metaphorical images.

A posztszocialista blokk képi világának az összefüggéseiben merülhetünk el a negyedik Work in Context nemzetközi fotográfiai szimpóziumon, amely ezúttal a Peripheral Priorities:! alcímet kapta. A Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem (MOME) Fotográfiai Központjának az eseménye két jelentős évfordulóhoz is kapcsolódik, ugyanis idén negyvenéves a magyarországi fotográfiai felsőoktatás, de maga a fotográfia, mint művészeti ág is kétszáz éve született. A jubileumok adta tágabb keret lehetőséget nyújt a médium művészi és technológiai fejlődésének, társadalmi hatásmechanizmusainak az újraértelmezésére. Az esemény 2026. január 28–29. között várja a fotográfia elmélete és gyakorlata iránt érdeklődőket Budapesten.

Under the title Unreal Estate, this year’s Krakow Photo Month explores the political, social, and historical entanglements of Central Europe, with particular focus on the relationship between Poland and Germany, as well as the spatial and mnemonic fault lines and questions of identity that continue to shape the region’s history. As a guest of MOME, curator Krzysztof Pijarski will give a talk on how this year’s festival concept came together.
