MOME KIKI – End-of-Semester Review Exhibition

Date: 2024.02.18
The End-of-Semester Review (KIPAK) Exhibition, the MOME KIKI, was organised for the first time in MOME’s history by Art and Design Management students, featuring selected works by students of the five English-language Master’s programmes – Design, Photography, Animation, Interaction Design, and Designer Maker. The initiative started out from a lack of public display opportunities for students, creating a platform to ensure valuable works produced within the university did not end up unseen after the end-of-semester review but instead received the visibility they deserve.

The exhibition took place from 16 to 22 February 2024 as part of the Deák Erika Grant Programme. The grant was awarded to Art and Design Management students Natasa Tereh and Theo Bárány in September 2023 for their concept for MOME KIKI.

The first KIKI’s theme was “333”, a relaxation technique to help people cope with anxiety. It involves finding 3 objects, identifying 3 sounds, and touching 3 surfaces in one’s surroundings.  By focusing on the physical reality, one can regain control over their thoughts and subsequently their bodies. Similarly, the thirteen selected students explored how they could rise above their anxieties from their unique perspectives. The common thread in their works was not only reflecting on distressing issues but also seeking resolutions and ways to move forward using their professional tools.

The number 3 also appeared in the exhibition concept, with each of the three sections of the exhibition space dedicated to a central theme: the balance between man and his environment; the search for our roots, the difficulties of growing up, and the quest for identity; and grief and letting go.

What place do folklore, climate protection, or isolation have on the runway? What does fashion and fashion design mean to Gen Z? How are the centres and peripheries of the fashion industry shifting in the 21st century? These are just some of the questions explored at this year’s MOME Fashion Show through collections reflecting the latest design thinking and a series of special accompanying events.
Two dedicated members of the faculty have been presented with this year’s Aurum Futuri (Gold of the Future) Award: art historian, curator, and lecturer Kinga German PhD, and design culture researcher and aesthetic theorist Ákos Schneider PhD. Both are professionals who believe in the transformative power of design and education, and whose impact reaches well beyond MOME itself. Now in its third year, the Aurum Futuri Award recognises MOME’s most outstanding educators and researchers, highlighting the value they create through mentoring, educational renewal, and research.
