The scholarship was founded by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in 2020, as a first of its kind, to deliver a meaningful reward to outstanding talents. In addition to offering a means to further develop student projects, it also provides an opportunity for advancing the industry competences and practical experience of the participants. 
Ecological sustainability and responses to various social issues featured prominently among this semester’s winning entries as well, including outstanding concepts in the area of mobility, architecture, photography, object design, and digital object design.  
The awards were presented by President of the Foundation Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy and Rector József Fülöp in an awards ceremony.  
The eponym of the competition, professor emeritus Stefan Lengyel delivered his congratulations to the winners in a video message. He underlined that the entries faithfully reflect the high standards of education, as well as the professional journey and development of the students. He also made a reference to Moholy-Nagy’s famous line, “The goal is not the object, but the person”, expressing his view that the winning concepts also adhere to this credo, and support a holistic approach both culturally and economically. 
Students of all four institutes – Media, Design, Architecture and Theoretical Studies – are automatically be included in the Excellence Scholarship Programme with their semester projects. In the first round, students are nominated by their fellow students, while in the second round, the 16 winning entries are selected by a jury of university leaders, teachers and professionals. 
This year, the jury was also joined by university professor and newcomer Dr. Petra Aczél, head of the Design Institute Péter Molnár, and several external professionals, including CEO of G-Green Interior Gábor Rétfalvi, head of Visual Europe Group Szabolcs Botond, and architect Zoltán Neville.
