A gigantic fresco of a family of long-eared owls complete with lights was created in Veszprém, thanks to the collaboration between the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

The animation short From the Corner of My Eye received a Special Mention from the Berlinale’s Youth Jury. Created by Domonkos Erhardt at the Animation department of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), the film debuted in the Generation 14+ section of one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.

What do prehistoric cave animal art and our daily changing Instagram stories have in common? Even the first attempts to make still pictures move were motivated by the same basic human need as all visual narratives constructed by us ever since – the need to tell a story as fully as possible.

Domonkos Erhardt is a versatile animation artist: after completing first a BA and then an MA at MOME, he founded Piros Studio with his former fellow students, also creates comics in addition to working in animation, and his third solo film is going to be screened at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival.

Domonkos Erhardt’s animation The Corner of My Eye has been shortlisted for the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival set to open on 16 February. Produced at the Animation department of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design with support from the National Film Institute, it will world premiere in the Generation 14 plus section of the Berlinale, considered to be one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.

The anniversary event of the animation training of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design featured talks by major international artists open to the professional community and the public. Students were given an opportunity to get a glimpse into the animation film making practice of other European artists and present their own works as part of a portfolio review.

Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) further expands its international education portfolio following the successful launch of its first two English MA programmes. Students looking to continue their education in the creative industries will now have the opportunity to study Animation and Design in English language from September 2023, in addition to Photography and Interaction Design, building a valuable network and gaining future-shaping, competitive knowledge while still at university.

The world’s top animation film event, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival took place between 13 and 18 June, where Balázs Turai took home the best animated short film award for his short Amok, also earning him an Academy Awards nomination.

The Hungary L!ve contemporary Hungarian art festival on 23 to 29 May, organised for the second time in New York, concluded with resounding success. The event showcased several works by students of MOME Media Institute, including short films and a graphics exhibition.

101 Hungarian Folktales showcases the creative oeuvre of Ferenc Mikulás, a prominent figure of Hungarian animation. The co-director of the film Zsuzsanna Vincze is one of MOME’s film associates.

The animation education of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design has been reviewed by Cartoon Brew, an essential professional magazine presenting the world’s leading animation schools.
