At this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Mihály Schwechtje’s upcoming feature Hairpin Turn Driving School was presented in the Eastern Promises section. The programme, which spotlights Central European co-productions, awarded the Marché du Film Producers Network Special Prize to the project’s producer, MOME Art and Design Management alumna Genovéva Petrovits. The award comes with an invitation to attend next year’s Cannes Film Festival as an official guest.
What will the University of the Future, the student of the future, and the artist of the future look like? At the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME)’s 2024 Open Day on 25 October, you’ll have the chance to explore programmes such as Product Design, Animation, Design Culture, Photography, and Designer-Maker. You can also explore the inspiring spaces of one of the leading creative universities in the region, the sports facilities, the park, and the University of the Future project, and pick up essential tips on building a winning admissions portfolio.
Even in its dilapidated state, the Batthyány Manor in Sitke captures the imagination of passersby. This inspiring architectural complex was the subject of a week-long course at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, and there are expectations for further collaboration with the descendants of the Batthyány family owning the house. The revitalisation project is centred around a plan for a contemporary nursing home that would also help uphold and perpetuate local values.
The TedxLiberty Bridge Women event on 9 November culminated in an unconventional fashion show by Terike from Budapest, a platform founded by MOME students. The show presented the core thoughts and values underlying the Terike initiative.
The Manage [it] Yourself professional roundtable discussion, on the collaboration between artists and managers, and on self-management, is organised for the 10th year in a row by the Art and Design Management programme. The Career Paths anniversary event of the Budapest Design Week 2023 event programme featured students who had graduated in the previous 10 years from the programme sharing their experience.
At the Best of MOME ‘23, this year’s top MA diploma projects from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design made their debut on 14 October at the Kastner Kommunity. The event highlighted the questions and issues that occupy the minds of the youngest generation of designers and the various design responses to them.
Design Theory MA student Eszter Sára Szabó earned the grant with her exhibition concept developed for beyond galleries, while Art and Design Management MA student Natasa Tereh and Sebestyén Teodor Bárány received the accolade for an impressive showcase designed for the MOME Campus.
Summer came to an end with a truly unique event held in the buildings of the Inota Thermal Power Plant in Várpalota. The INOTA - Audiovisual Festival at the power plant event series had several MOME affiliations, as collected below.
The Intermezzo Festival will take place for the second time this year, launched by MOME and the House of Music, to the delight of all music, light painting, and animation lovers. The purpose of the event series created by the students, in addition to providing an opportunity for emerging musicians to make their debut, is to connect music with a design-oriented audience. The House of Music, Hungary offers an ideal backdrop for the electronic musical and inspiring visual accompaniment.

Bence Kocsis (OIEE) and Blanka Kicsák (Art and Design Management MA student) began working together during MOME’s mentoring programme, resulting in a new music video by OIEE – OFF BEAT ECHO.
With the increasingly widespread adoption of design, inclusivity is gaining ground, exploring the creation of techniques, structures and utility items to help persons with any disability live their life to the fullest possible. The ambition is not just to keep on creating items with new forms, but also tools that can provide widely available assistance.
