Hogyan lehet a hagyományos népművészeti formakincset, az ehhez szorosan kötődő, archaikus kézműves technikákat és anyagokat újraértelmezni a kortárs design szemléletével? Erre a kérdésre ad különböző válaszokat az idén tízéves Future Traditions program, amely mára a Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem (MOME) Divat- és textiltervezés mesterszak képzésének meghatározó tartalmi elemévé vált. 2024-ben a program a Magyar–Török Kulturális Évad keretében zajlott, egy féléven át az isztambuli Marmara Egyetemmel dolgoztak együtt a MOME hallgatói, az itt született eredményeket pedig az isztambuli Magyar Kulturális Központban nyílt kiállításon mutatják be.

The ‘Tomorrow Belongs to You’ teacher scholarship programme has launched, bringing together fourteen secondary school teachers from across Hungary, each with their own unique backgrounds and expertise.

Few art forms preserve tradition as seamlessly as Japanese ceramic art. In March 2025, students from MOME’s Designer-Maker programme had the rare opportunity to participate in a masterclass led by one of the most renowned contemporary Japanese ceramic artists, Toshio Ohi Chozaemon (11th generation). During this exclusive workshop, they not only learned the world-famous techniques of Ohi-yaki ceramics but also had the privilege of taking part in an authentic Japanese tea ceremony.

The Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design unanimously appointed Csaba Kovács, Ybl and Prima Primissima Award-winning architect, as Acting Rector of MOME on 20 March 2025, in accordance with the recommendation of the University Senate. The mandate of the Acting Rector runs until the end of the academic year 2025-26.

Elite sport, ambition, tension, and extreme mental and physical strain – these are the central themes explored in The Last Drop, a gripping animated short by Anna Tőkés. The film has been shortlisted for the graduation film category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, one of the most prestigious showcases for animation worldwide. This year, the festival is paying tribute to Hungarian animation, shining the light on the country’s vibrant film industry, artists, studios, and schools.

The winners of the eighth ArtHungry Award in the Product Design category include several former MOME students, such as Máté Guthy, Róbert Kristóffy, and Nóra Szilágyi for their ‘At Least’ home workout bench, and Márk Dávid for his ‘Puritaan – 03’ collection. The main prize in this category went to MAIII COLLECTIVE for its Fragments collection, which debuted at this year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair. In the Graphic Design category, Nóra Kaszanyi also received a main prize for her album and exhibition design ‘Biedermeier Lifestyles. Art and the Rise of the Middle Classes in 19th-Century Hungary (1815–1867)’. The awards were presented on 6 March at a ceremony held at Deák Palace in Budapest, which also marked the opening of a pop-up exhibition featuring the finalist projects.

This year, the world’s leading international animation film festival celebrates the 110th anniversary of Hungarian animation. MOME Anim, a prominent hub in the Hungarian animation scene, is also preparing for this prestigious event. As part of the celebration, students from MOME’s partner school, Gobelins Paris, recently visited our university, drawing inspiration from Budapest to create the curtain films for the festival – the short spots that precede each screening block.

As part of the FISU Healthy Campus initiative, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) launched the MOME Balance programme in 2024, a pioneering initiative in Hungary that supports conscious lifestyle changes. The programme aims to help maintain health, prevent stress, and combat burnout through a comprehensive, integrated system that combines physical activity, proper nutrition, and lifestyle coaching.

During the extraordinary Senate session on 3 March, Ybl and Prima Primissima Award-winning architect and university professor Csaba Kovács was elected with 70% of the vote to serve as acting rector of the university. Following the vote, a confidence vote saw more than 90% of the Senate supporting his nomination, and his candidacy has now been submitted to the Board of Trustees for approval. The Board of Trustees will discuss this nomination at its next meeting.

Important discussions have taken place in recent days, aimed at seeking consensus, fostering consolidation, and building and strengthening trust between the various parties. “Following the resolutions made at the extraordinary Senate meetings in February, the Senate has started negotiations with both the MOME Front and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation maintaining the university. Both discussions are productive and focused on building mutual understanding”, said CEO of MOME and acting president of the MOME Senate Réka Matheidesz.
