The rehabilitation of the Fecske Mill in Jászberény will create a much-needed cultural institution for the local community. My design utilises the existing building stock to the greatest extent possible, leaving the mill building and the unfinished extension almost untouched, with only minor modifications, while incorporating renewed functions. An annex is added to the current structure to complete the half-finished building with a redesign. The auditorium will be housed within the previously started loaf-shaped layout, which, by inverting the earlier design, will appear as the negative space of the new building. The surrounding units will provide a unique spatial experience while supporting the functional operation of the auditorium. The resulting building complex will offer opportunities for cultural events, recreation, and uninterrupted office work.
