Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design | Institute of Architecture
Artistic-level design work for shaping the human environment
The programme is designed to help students learn the artistic and technical skills required for shaping the built environment and design processes, using an approach characterised by the trinity of architecture, interior design and furniture design.
A close teacher-student collaboration forms the basis of the programme, and the small number of students per studio allows for a classic master-student dialogue. In addition to individual design work, the Institute also places a strong emphasis on complex teamwork.
After graduation, there are opportunities to intern at international and Hungarian architecture firms. Fresh graduates can work as visual designers, whereas pursuing an independent career in architecture requires completion of the MA programme.
A team of MOME students have won first place at the CheckINN Revitalisator competition. First launched by the CheckINN Turisztikai Innovációmenedzsment Kft and MOME last year, the competition invites university and college talents to seek solutions for the reuse of rust zone sites in teamwork. From the nearly 30 teams, INDOOHÁZ received the first prize for giving new life to abandoned railway water reservoirs as bivouacs for backpackers.
This year was the 16th time the Architect Regatta took place at Lake Balaton, and the second time MOME has participated. The race, founded by architect Ernő Kálmán DLA, has become a tradition in the Hungarian architecture community, and is an excellent opportunity not just for sailing but also for networking among architects. The message of the race this year is that whatever life brings, we can count on each other -- “We are building the future together!”
An extensive museum pedagogy collaboration was launched by the Janus Pannonius Museum in 2019 under the name Op Art Academy, coordinating the work of students and teachers of four universities, including MOME. The resulting student designs and artworks are currently on display at the Museum Gallery and the Vasarely Museum in Pécs.
MOME Architecture Institute’s Public Lecture Series welcomes prominent Hungarian and International Architects, Designers, and Thinkers to present and discuss their work within the built environment. The Spring 2023 series titled “Architectural Matters” features a diversity of lecturers from around Europe whose work focuses on the materialization of forward-thinking concepts. The wide range of expertise creates an opportunity for discussion and reflection on the state of creating our cities of tomorrow.
