My research focused on the creative approach of György Ligeti, which led me to design a visual representation of his experimental, nature-inspired, complex yet harmonious soundscapes. The design process involved selecting fifteen different pieces composed at various stages of Ligeti's life. I transcribed the visual symbols using an audio-reactive code, resulting in a different appearance of each piece according to its sound. In the spirit of experimentation, I explored multiple techniques during project development, resulting in a poster that responds to touch with sound patterns, and a box containing sound discs, featuring patterns printed with carbon paper. In his atmospheric works, Ligeti employed micropolyphony, a technique that involves the simultaneous playing of many different instruments to create a “sound texture”, producing a unified, swirling cloud of interwoven sounds that are inseparable from each other. The black-and-white poster created for the project reflects this phenomenon with its bitmap-based design.
