The two abandoned buildings have been given new functions, and transformed into a site meeting the needs of the local community. A complementary spatial structure with a complex function was added to the existing building stock. First, it bridges the differences in level of the existing buildings in a generally accessible way, and second, it provides expanded platforms in interior spaces to support the new functions. The two L-shaped, ramped masses have multiple functions: in addition to wheelchair accessibility, it also provides spatial delineation around the park, making it also safe for children. The resulting den-like spaces underneath offer non pre-defined opportunities for play. As a result, the park provides easy accessibility and an inclusive environment to both the local community and visitors from further afield.
