Koroknai's series deals with depression, an intense psychological condition and common mental disorder that affects millions of individuals worldwide.
It is not simply a fleeting sadness, but a deeply entrenched state of distress that alters one's perception, emotions, and daily experiences. Her project seeks to shed light on the various dimensions of depression and explore this subject through mainly abstract works. While the images may not be immediately recognisable as depicting depression, she believes that they capture the essence of the illness in a way that words alone cannot.
The series includes photographs for which she created another layer with paint, charcoal, or photo- and chemigrams to convey the distorted reality of depression in a raw and expressive manner. The abstract compositions depict these subjective experiences, offering viewers a glimpse into the internal struggles and complex emotions that depression engenders.
