Congratulations on receiving your scholarship award! We hope that you are ready to start your exciting journey with us and we look forward to welcoming you in MOME’s community. Find out what you need to do, what happens next, and how you can best prepare for your time in Budapest.
First Steps
Beside going through the university’s guide please also check Tempus Public Foundation’s dedicated website for scholarship holders.
Please note that the preliminary letter of acceptance which is sent to you in June is only for the purpose of your visa/ residence permit application. The official acceptance letter will be available at the end of July from our electronic student administration system, Neptun. At this point all newly admitted students will get access to the Neptun system and will be able to download the official acceptance decision. You will receive an email about this between July 25-30.
After receiving your Letter of Acceptance from the university and your Letter of Award from Tempus Public Foundation you can start your visa application process at the respective Hungarian consular office. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that visa processing can be long therefore we advise students to start the application process as early as possible. Please check this link for the process of the visa application and the necessary documents.
- Those who cannot travel to Hungary visa-free must submit their residence permit application as part of the visa process. You may submit an application at a diplomatic or consular service of Hungary in the country of your nationality or your place of residence.
Please be advised to contact the competent consulate / embassy of Hungary to inquire for further information, if there are any other places authorised to receive applications for a residence permit. - If you are allowed to enter Hungary visa free due to your nationality you may submit an application for a residence permit in Hungary. While arranging the residence permit is the student’s responsibility they receive assistance from the university. Applications must be submitted via the EnterHungary electronic platform. The student tutors’ responsibility is to assist their international students in navigating MOME and university life in Budapest.
Our student buddy system called ‘MOME M8 International Tutoring Program’ is organized by the Academic Office and the Student Hub. Students will be informed of their allocated student tutor and all details of the program at the beginning of the semester.
Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship holders receive a dormitory placement or if they do not wish to stay in the dormitory a monthly allowance of 40.000 HUF towards their housing expense. For more details on our student dormitory please visit here.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept bank accounts from any non-Hungarian banks, you will be required to open a HUF bank account with a Hungarian bank to receive your stipend. You will need your passport, proof of address and may be required to show your residence permit in order to open your account. Most of the bank accounts in Hungary have a low monthly maintenance fee (300 – 1000 HUF/ month) and have an annual card fee associated with them (ranging up to 5000 HUF / annum). Cash withdrawal from an ATM may be free if you use the ATM with the logo of your own bank, otherwise it has a small charge. Please enquire about the details at the bank of your choice. Once you have your bank account number, please send the details to your SH coordinator at MOME so we can register it in our Neptun system. You can find more useful tips and a list of the biggest Hungarian banks here.
