ONYX Műhely x MOME

Date: 2023.01.26
164 years of heritage - 9 designers - 9 traditional desserts - 9 contemporary concepts

The project is a collaboration between the MOME Object Design programme and ONYX Műhely. The goal of ONYX Műhely is to present a progressive Hungarian cuisine offering a fusion of art, science and gastronomy. Fostering talent is a key area of its operations, providing space to culinary, food science, and fine and applied arts projects by young talents.

The design course for ceramic design students of the MOME Object Design programme was led by Art Director of the ONYX Műhely’s Creative Community Angéla Góg DLA, and ceramist and MOME teacher Edit Kondor.

Assisted by the Műhely's creative pastry chef Zsuzsanna Borsos, students were tasked with designing dessert serving items for ONYX Műhely by exploring contemporary dessert culture and the related serving techniques and drawing on Gerbeaud's legacy.

The resulting designs were on display for two days during the Budapest Design Week 2022. The students presented their designs themselves, and visitors were able to test them by sampling the desserts created by ONYX Műhely.

Six participants in the ‘Tomorrow Belongs to You – For the creative talents of the future’ 2025 scholarship programme are about to begin their BA studies at MOME, while three others have been admitted to the University of Szeged, Óbuda University, and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. The numbers speak for themselves: the second cohort of the scholarship, launched in 2023, has truly helped its students take their first steps towards a creative career, transforming them from high schoolers into university students.
