The most memorable things great teachers say are rarely loud or dramatic, yet they stay with us long after the moment has passed. Imre Benkő had that kind of presence: quiet, attentive, and steady, whether in a formal or informal setting. Generations of photographers were shaped by his humanist outlook, informed by sensitivity, empathy, and a thoughtful understanding of how to portray society. Although he taught at the Zugligeti út campus for only two years, from 1998 to 2000, his reportage classes and his calm, detail-oriented guidance left a lasting mark on an entire middle generation of Hungarian documentary photographers. Even if only in traces, his influence can still be felt in the work of the second and third generations who followed.
