MOME's multidisciplinary doctoral school is based on the coherence and interdisciplinary collaboration of the four disciplines, and is active in three design and art disciplines as well as one scientific discipline.

The articulation of the four branches of training builds on the university’s master’s degree structure and completes the trend of three-degree training from a broad spectrum of specific skills (BA) to an integrative structure of doctoral training through the summarising nature of the master’s courses. This educational philosophy is also reflected in the inter and transdisciplinary character of the thematic foci announced by the doctoral school.

In addition, in the fact that the supervisors, representing various creative/research fields, typically work in a co-consultative relationship with the various doctoral students and doctoral groups. The MOME Doctoral School is also ready to place its research and the professional fields it covers in the context of basic and applied research, development and innovation in cooperation with other national and international academic institutions, market players and social organisations.

European doctoral programme

The application platform is now open for the four-year doctoral network of CoDesign4Transitions

Research Groups

News

The application platform is now open for the CoDesign4Transitions (The Sustainable Transitions through Democratic Design Doctoral Network) programme, in which the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) will play a significant role. Created in collaboration with eight universities from seven countries, the interdisciplinary doctoral programme will accept 13 candidates, one of which will have the opportunity to do research in Budapest, at MOME, for a period of three years.

Design permeates every corner of the world, incorporates the sometimes opposite values of functionality and aesthetics, and is centered around the living human body – the soma. The recently published Somaesthetics and Design Culture, co-edited by DLA programme lead of the MOME Doctoral School Bálint Veres and world-renowned aesthete-philosopher Richard Shusterman (Florida Atlantic University) explores these issues in a greater depth.

MOME’s intellectual hub, the Doctoral School, where iconic figures of Hungarian visual and object culture and architecture have earned their doctoral degrees, has turned 25. The anniversary will be celebrated with a comprehensive exhibition, innovative installation, and professional conference, held on the university campus and presenting in a personal fashion the story of how the school came to be.

Disegno

A Disegno alapító szerkesztőinek célja, hogy egy, a kreatív szakmai és tudományos világban meghatározó szerepet betöltő, szemeszterenként megjelenő, lektorált szabad folyóiratot hozzon létre a designkultúra nemzetközi rangú képviseletére és kritikai természetű analízisére. A folyóirat a MOME Doktori Iskola gondozásában jelenik meg, online és offline formában is elérhető.
