Diploma Exhibition 2025

What’s the science behind cuteness? How might we rethink bulky waste collection in Budapest, or even redesign a fruit dryer? What does it mean to reconnect with nature, and is it really necessary to store the endless streams of data we’re generating today? These are just some of the questions addressed by the masterworks featured in the 2025 Diploma Exhibition of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME). This year’s graduates explore global and societal challenges through the lens of design and art, with works spanning four major themes: the climate crisis, social innovation, dignified care and healthcare, and the future of cultural heritage in an ever-accelerating world.

Open to the public and free of charge, the exhibition will run for a full week from Saturday at the Zugligeti Road campus. Student projects across ten MA programmes – from prototypes and models to immersive installations – each reflect the mindset and vision of a new generation.

The projects are as diverse as they are thought-provoking, often presenting unexpected, cross-disciplinary responses to some of today’s most pressing issues. They offer inspiration, spark reflection, and bring fresh perspectives to the deep-rooted problems shaping our society and economy.

Moving through the university spaces, you can gain a real sense of what drives this generation and how they would respond to the critical challenges of the 21st century. Each diploma project reflects a personal perspective shaped by awareness of the environmental, cultural and societal questions shaping our shared future.

Organised by the MOME Centre for Photography for the fourth time, the international Work in Context symposium explores current directions in Central European photography, along with their theoretical and social contexts. This year’s edition, under the subtitle Peripheral Priorities:!, sets out to reconsider the challenges facing contemporary photography by drawing on the contradictions embedded in public discourse (i.e. oxymorons) such as “war for peace” or “false truth”. Speakers addressing the social, historical, and political roles of photography offer nuanced, multi-perspective interpretations, engaging with themes such as memory, post-socialist legacies, and marginalised creative positions.
