The works created by the latest generation of product design students of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), presented at the S/ALON BUDAPEST home trend fair on 22 to 24 September at the Budapest Arena all share a focus on the passion for the traditions of handcrafting, sustainability, innovation, and emotional connection. Uniquely in Hungary, the fair showcases the latest home decor trends, furniture, lighting solutions, flooring and wall coverings, home textiles, and accessories in extraordinary interiors, and is centered around the relationship of design and nature.

For the third year in a row, the Product Design programmes of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design have had a booth of their own at the Greenhouse section of the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, also debuting the Wave lamp, a product design developed at the BE LIGHT! x MOME course.

Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) further expands its international education portfolio following the successful launch of its first two English MA programmes. Students looking to continue their education in the creative industries will now have the opportunity to study Animation and Design in English language from September 2023, in addition to Photography and Interaction Design, building a valuable network and gaining future-shaping, competitive knowledge while still at university.

The success story of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design of Budapest and Mercedes-Benz began twenty years ago. To mark the occasion, we interviewed Robert Lešnik, Head of Exterior Design at Mercedes-Benz.

Our Product Design alumnus Gábor Németh recently moved to China, where he became the creative design director of one of the world’s largest automotive companies, the Geely Group.

Project participants included students and teachers from the Vehicle Design programme of the Design Institute of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, and from the Department of Innovative Vehicles and Materials of the GAMF Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science of the John von Neumann University.

This is not the first time the Flying Object design studio team (teacher of the Vehicle Design programme at MOME’s Design Institute András Húnfalvi, Product Design MA alumnus Ferenc Laufer and Product Design MA alumna Anna Naszádi) has flown to Singapore to accept one of the world’s most prestigious design awards, the Red Dot Design Award.

Index visited the newly opened innovative vehicle design workshop of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, where young talents have been trained in close cooperation with the lead designers of Mercedes-Benz for 20 years, and things are picking up speed.

The prestigious accolade was awarded to the Ustory Design Studio for their luxury motor home design created for Dembell Motorhomes. The co-founder of the studio, product designer Dániel Ruppert is a MOME alumnus and instructor of its Vehicle Design programme.

The Vehicle Design programme of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design made its debut with an intriguing presentation and spectacular physical and virtual models at the AMTS, one of Hungary’s top car event taking place between 27 and 29 May.
