The aim of the Product Design BA programme is to help students master design thinking and the steps of the design process from the exploration of user requirements and brainstorming to model building and preparations for execution – both in product and service design.
A wide range of projects (product design, system design, experimental assignments, etc.) enable everyone to find their area of interest and hone the required skills. Students will learn to present their ideas using drawings, 3D models and prototypes created in the workshops.
We are involved in collaborations with a number of governmental and non-governmental organisations in addition to our business partners, helping students broaden their horizons and enhance their social and societal sensitivity. Our graduates can hold their own in international competition, find jobs with design studios and companies, start their own business or move on to MA programmes.

Micro-mobility solutions, clever storage innovations for homes and offices, a nuclear contamination detector, and playful pencil sharpeners galore – this year’s Best of Forma exhibition featuring works by MOME’s Product Design BA and Design MA students at the Budapest Design Week 2024 offered an exciting vision of creativity. This year, the young students stepped away from conventional exhibition spaces, presenting their works in the vibrant Kollab co-working environment, where visitors could enjoy a cup of coffee while viewing the showcase. The displayed projects reflected a wide array of unique perspectives, with designs responding to everyday challenges while keeping sustainability at the forefront. From food waste and mobility to storage and upcycling materials, the projects presented remarkable and intriguing solutions to contemporary issues.
This year, the department successfully participated as an exhibitor at the well-known Swedish design fair in February, where the works of undergraduate and master's students were presented
The works created by the latest generation of product design students of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), presented at the S/ALON BUDAPEST home trend fair on 22 to 24 September at the Budapest Arena all share a focus on the passion for the traditions of handcrafting, sustainability, innovation, and emotional connection. Uniquely in Hungary, the fair showcases the latest home decor trends, furniture, lighting solutions, flooring and wall coverings, home textiles, and accessories in extraordinary interiors, and is centered around the relationship of design and nature.

MOME’s Open Day is back on 2 February, this time in the virtual sphere...
Our next special FormaNorma event will feature guest speakers Andrea Ruggiero and Jens Gijbels. Their talks will be followed by the closing event of the Future Design Studio course led by Jens Gijbels, and the interactive exhibition of the second year Product Design MA students in the Gond-űző.
The exhibition featuring the most outstanding works of Product Design BA and MA students lends a new narrative to the historical rooms of the Miksa Róth Memorial House.

The Plaster Modelling Workshop operates as part of and in collaboration with the Modelling Workshop.
Here, students can produce the objects designed by them and architecture students can make maquettes. Substitute forms from plaster or silicone can also be created for works to be made from other materials. The vacuuming forms used for vacuum-formed plastic objects are also mainly created in the Plaster Modelling Workshop.
Tasks related to studying forms can also be preformed in the workshop.
The Design Institute provides an opportunity for active dialogue with design institutions and professional organisations in Hungary, Europe and around the world. The collaboration between the Institute and Mercedes-Benz Design Studio – which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year – is exemplary. It was 20 years ago that MOME partnered with Daimler Design’s world-class community of experts to support the introduction of cutting-edge technology at the university and raise the international standard of the educational programme.
The Modelling Workshops are the venue for the modelling skills subject, where working and structural models, mock-ups and prototypes are made. Material knowledge and material shaping exercises, transfer of technical skills using metal, wood, plastics, and handheld/mechanical
cutting tools.
